Los Angeles, CA (1/22/2008) - -The World’s Only 501 (c) (3) Non-profit organization for Health Travel announced today that dental services and India topped the list for most popular health procedures and locations in 2008. Healthcare Tourism International, the Los Angeles-based healthcare tourism 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, seeks to revolutionize the industry through its patient-centered web site and tools along with unbiased health travel information.
The most commonly desired health procedures health travelers in 2008 were Dental Bridges, Dental Bonding, and Breast Augmentation. Overall, dental procedures were the most commonly searched followed by medical cosmetic procedures. Others included a wide range of procedures, such as Coronary Artery Bypass Graft, Colonoscopy, LASIK, and In Vitro Fertilization. Overall, countries within Asia were the most commonly searched locations for volunteering. This was followed by other parts of Europe and North America. India, Hungary, and Mexico were the most commonly searched countries in Asia, Europe, and North America, respectively. The following were the most searched locations in other regions: South America – Brazil, Africa – Egypt, and Oceania – Australia. The survey consisted of a majority of U.S. patients followed by Canadian and U.K patients.
The HealthCare Tourism International team is comprised of medical, dental, tourism and business experts from all facets of healthcare. The accreditation process entails improving the non-clinical aspects of the health tourism experience, which makes it a complimentary system to the Joint Commissions International clinical accreditation system. Aspects such as business practices, recovery options and language abilities all include areas covered by the accreditation system. A separate protocol has been developed for the following types of health tourism companies: hotel providers, health tourism travel agencies, non-ambulatory transport vehicles, hospitals with concierge services, airlines, translator/conveyance companies and insurance companies.
